About the Jane Goodall Institute Australia (JGIA)
This dynamic non-profit organisation fosters a passionate and diverse culture that is committed to inspiring actions that connect animals, people, and our shared environment. We are seeking an experienced and committed part-time (3 days per week, timing flexible however you must be willing to come into our offices at the zoo 2 days/ week). The COO is the operational hub of the organisation and is responsible for structuring the organisation for growth, ensuring operational effectiveness, maintaining a thriving culture and developing the JGIA internal and volunteer team.
About the Role
Reporting to the CEO, the COO is the people leader who will also work closely with Board Directors and manage volunteers. You will have a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience to cover the key responsibilities which include:
- Manage all operational areas including: risk and compliance, HR, finance, WHS, and communications
- Provide direct line management for a team of 3-5 staff plus additional volunteers
- Support the Communications Coordinator to maintain websites, create donor communications and manage the donor database
- Support our Roots & Shoots general manager to expand our Australian youth education programs
- Act as a ICT / system administrator across numerous systems including Google Suite and Google applications, CRM (Nationbuilder), Facebook, and various online platforms
- Support the preparation of funding reports for corporate partners, grants and major donors
- Manage merchandise including planning, inventory management and maintaining and fulfilment of the online shop
- Coordinate the compilation of Annual Report
- A strong operational, people leader, you will possess the following:
- 10+ years of operational and people leadership experience
- Passion for the not-for-profit sector, including volunteer management, donor management, and identifying drivers of success
- Demonstrable experience in understanding business and financial impacts of operational and HR decisions
- A positive ‘can-do’ attitude and enthusiasm for working in a team
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong IT skills, you love systems, Google applications and aren’t intimidated by spreadsheets
- People skills which help you to bring out the best in the JGIA team
- A personal interest in animal welfare, environmental conservation and community education and action
- Results driven, you’ll constantly strive towards operational excellence
