July Newsletter 2014

1. Jane’s Prayer for World Peace

In light of recent tragedies around our world, we’d like to share this prayer for world peace by Jane Goodall.

2. JGI and Rotary Partnership

While in Sydney last month, Jane Goodall met with the Chair of the proposed Rotary Action Group for Endangered Species (RAGES), John Glassford.  During the meeting, Jane agreed to  become the patron for RAGES.

Rotary International is now in over 200 countries with 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs. Although RAGES is in its infancy, with the support of Jane and JGI, John believes they will be effective in assisting a myriad of endangered species. We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding association with Rotary. Further information is available here. (Photo-John Glassford, Jane Goodall, Susan Glassford, Natalie Houghton)

3. Seeking New Board Members

JGI Australia is seeking new board members to lead the organisation to its next phase of development.  If you share our mission to connect animals, people and the environment and would like to offer your services, there may be a role for you.

Please go to this page for further information.

4. Roots & Shoots in Indonesia

Following her recent tour in Australia, Dr Jane visited Bali as a guest of Green School where she spent four days with students from around Bali, promoting Roots & Shoots and meeting people from animal welfare and conservation groups in Indonesia. Over 85 groups from five islands in Indonesia have now joined the global Roots & Shoots movement! Watch this amazing tribute to Dr Jane from the Green School community. The song is entitled “Roots Go Down” and was written by performing arts teacher, Sarita Pockell and performed by students and the school community.

5. Compassion Fatigue

JGIA is a beacon for compassionate people who want a better world for animals, people and the environment. People often contact us expressing their despair about our planet’s problems which can sometimes be overwhelming.  This article offers 4 tips to overcome compassion fatigue.
