How to Help

It is people like you who are committed to making this world a better place, that make it possible for us to make a significant difference for people, animals and the environment.

8) Future Options

As we move closer towards achieving our vision, JGI Australia needs your help.

It is individuals like you, who share our beliefs and are committed to making this world a better place, that make it possible for us to make a significant difference for people, animals and the environment.

Your investment will help us:

* Put an end to the large-scale commercial bushmeat trade, a crisis so severe it could lead to the loss of several species including chimpanzees, gorillas and elephants.

* Provide a safe haven for orphaned chimpanzees in need of rehabilitation and care through our Sanctuary program

* Restore habitats in Africa through balanced, sustainable, community programs which involve local citizens in conservation and community development

* Educate and empower children around the world with the knowledge that their individual actions are a powerful force in improving their world.

Every individual matters

Thank you for your support

JGI Australia is currently in the process of being registered as a charity. However, you can still make a donation now & still receive tax deductibility. Our Founding Partner 'Zoos South Australia' has agreed to act as a fiscal partner, enabling JGI donors to donate to us via Zoos SA Foundation and be eligable for  tax deduction.

Ways to Contribute

1) Donate now

By sending cheques to:

The Jane Goodall Institute
PO Box 1004
Spit Junction  NSW  2088

Workplace Giving Campaign/Employer matching

Start your own campaign at work. Talk to your employer about matching your donation and start now to make a difference!

This is where the corporation that you work for will contribute the same amount as its employees in a given calendar year. Some employers even double or triple the gifts their employees give!  Contact your Human Resources Manager for further information.

Planned Giving

In the near future you can include JGI in your Estate Plans through Bequests. A charitable bequest is a gift of assets to a charity through a will. A bequest operates like a post-dated cheque payable only after death. At the same time it is revocable - you can change your bequest at any time should your circumstances change.

2) Recycle your Phone for Year of the Gorilla

Recycle your mobile phone today and help gorillas in the wild.  Click here for more information.

3) Become a member of Roots & Shoots (R&S)

R&S is a network of people working together to make a difference in their communities.

R&S is a youth driven, environmental and humanitarian education program that relies on a global network of people. R&S groups are empowered to make a difference within their communities and to share their knowledge with the world.

Groups identify research, plan and take action to solve issues affecting animals, the environment or their communities. When you sign up to be a R&S group coordinator, the Institute will supply you with various tools to help you achieve success.

These may include:

  • A coordinators manual with group building and project planning ideas

  • Age appropriate activities resources

  • R&S newsletter with inspiring international stories, photos and news

  • Annual youth & college summits to share ideas and learn new skills

  • Regional gatherings with opportunities for community building and celebration

  • Support from R&S staff

  • Partnerships in Understandings, an international ideas exchange

We need your help to expand this dynamic network into every school, community group and every home. Help us empower young people with the knowledge that:

  • Every individual matters
  • Every individual has a role to play
  • Every individual makes a difference

Ugandan Paper BeadsA wonderful example of an ethical gift is the Ugandan Paper Bead Jewellery - hand crafted by Ugandan women and financed by micro enterprise grants through JGI.

7) Living the Difference

Take Action now!

Become as self sustainable as possible in your home, work & Community by making your environmental imprint smaller everyday.

Our action centre has ideas under everyday categories to help you take positive action for people, animals and the environment ……everyday!

Create Green Space

Planting a tree and participating in community clean-ups makes any neighbourhood more pleasent; don't hesitate to ask your local nursery for advice on plants, flowers and landscaping that are from your local area & are water wise, as well as native flora that will attract many native fauna to your area.

Conserving resources

Plan a Zero-Energy day. Choose an entire day to reduce your energy consumption to zero. Rather than taking your car to the shops, walk or ride your bike. Turn off the television and pick up a favourite book. Turn off the lights and light some candles (remembering not to leave candles lit and unsupervised).

A zero-energy day is not only good for the environment, it's a great way to slow down and enjoy the people and animals around us.

On your plate

Decisions on what you eat have a large impact on the environment, animals and people. After all, eating is something we all do, several times a day!

Look for certified organic foods from local, independent stores. You can avoid destructive chemicals, pesticides and genetically engineered food by buying organic produce. Instead of inflating multinational corporations you can directly benefit your community by supporting local, independent grocers and growers.

Read more about this in Dr Goodall's Book Harvest for Hope.

Shopping

Be aware of animal testing! The soap that you use to wash your hands may have been tested on animals and dolphins may have drowned for your tuna sandwich. Look for humane alternatives such as cosmetics labelled animal-friendly or dolphin-friendly brands of tuna. Take the time to consider the social and environmental impacts of the products you buy; every little decision makes a difference. Also look for Fair Trade items.

Awareness & Appreciation

Each day we influence the lives of both human and non-humans but we hardly notice. Let's take some time to connect to the people, animals and environment around us.

8) Future Options

In the future we will have options for sponsorship and making a gift of stocks or securities
