Jane Goodall Institute of Australia

History

The Jane Goodall Institute was founded by Jane Goodall in cooperation with Princess Genevieve di Faustino in California USA in 1977.

In November 2006, JGI was established in Australia. Jane Goodall's visit in 2006 was a great success thanks to Jan Nash & Fay, Andrew Denton and Polly Connolly.

In July 2006, Jane was interviewed on Andrew Dentons 'Enough Rope'. The interview was a great success, spreading awareness about pressing conservation issues to the Australian people. Listen and watch Andrew Denton's interview with Jane Goodall on Enough Rope.

JGI Australia was established by a small, dedicated group of volunteers who have all been moved by Jane and now wish to make a positive difference in this world.

The JGI Educational program, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots began organically in Victoria, Australia in 2002 and now has groups nation wide!

The future of JGI Australia

JGI Australia now helps to implement the JGI Africa programs. These programs manage sanctuaries for orphaned chimpanzees that have lost their mothers to the illegal bush-meat and/or pet trade.

We now support self sustaining programs within local communities, community-centred conservation, and encourage and assist African nations to preserve their remaining natural forests.
